Sending Press Releases

Don’t waste time sending News Releases to publications that are not going to be interested in your story – you need to spend time researching your mailing list. It is always worth finding out the names of the appropriate journalists that deal with local businesses, holidays, leisure etc, and invite them to, for instance, your Hospitality Assured Yearly presentations so you can develop a good relationship with them. You also need to enquire how the journalists like to receive your press releases – whether they prefer you to post them or, more probably, email them which most now do so they can sub-edit releases on screen; and delivery times are immediate and assured.

When sending photographs, make sure that the people in the photo are clearly captioned so the recipients know exactly who they are and what their job titles are – i.e. Pictured from left to right: John Smith, managing director of Emu Hotels; June Summers, conference manager, Cranshire Convention Centre; …..

This information can be included in a special heading inserted after the contact details on the press release. When photos are sent by email, the ideal format is a jpeg, making sure that the photographer has provided 300 plus resolution photos to ensure they can be reproduced in hard copy magazines/newspapers.
